ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Junior High Girls' Volleyball Guidelines

The volleyball coaches meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 4:00 p.m., 360 Colborne, Fifth Floor Cafeteria.

Practice for volleyball may begin no earlier than Monday, September 12, 2011.

Medical examinations are required for all girls participating in interscholastic sports programs. The procedure to be used is the same for all athletes. Contact your athletic director for information.

Practices shall be conducted five (5) days a week, except on the days when matches are scheduled.

The National Federation Volleyball Rules will be used, including all modifications as outlined by the MSHSL.

A match shall consist of three (3) games (best two out of three). Rally scoring, all games to 25 points.

Player's benches shall be located on the opposite side of the floor from spectators.

Each school will determine its own policy in admitting spectators. Visiting schools should be notified of this policy.

Both coaches should talk with the officials prior to each match. A level of play may be determined at this time.

Request to play non-conference games must be made through the Athletic Director.

The host school shall furnish six (6) volleyballs for the visiting school to use during warm-up prior to the game.

Coach or school athletic director is responsible for arrangement of officials, scorer and timer for each home match. They must also forward in a timely manner the Officiating Services Report to the District Office so that officials are paid.

The results of the match should be called in by the HOME coach to John Vosejpka by phone (767-3490) or e-mail (john.vosejpka@SPPS.org) for Web site posting.

Students and coaches are to travel by bonded carrier. Coaches must accompany students on the bus.

Medals will be awarded to the City Champion at a scheduled board meeting.
JUNIOR HIGH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Format:

Everyone's first match of the day will have a ten minute warm-up (4-4-2). Every match after that will be a five minute warm-up (2-2-1).

There will be two pools of teams.

Every team plays two games of 25 and are guaranteed to play three matches. Each team receives a point of each game they win and then one additional point for whichever of the two teams has a higher combined total of the two games.

Each coach will referee at least one match (but no more than two) when they are not involved in coaching their teams. The coach will be the up ref and some of his/her players will do the clock and line judging. Officials have been hired to work the championship and third place matches.

At the end of pool play, the teams with the two highest point totals from each pool will meet for the championship game. The second teams from each pool will play each other for third place.
